Congresswoman Jocelyn S. Limkaichong (1st District, Negros Oriental, Philippines) shares in this report that a measure aimed at helping poor families supporting children with disabilities and special needs has been approved by the 15th Congress’ Committee on Ways and Means. She says the measure is in compliance to Magna Carta for Persons with Disabilities and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
This is a an organization that strives to ensure that Persons With Disabilities of working abilities are empowered economically. We believe that through economic empowerment especially entrepreneurship and employment, persons with disabilities can attain an independent life, and be able to make choices for their lives. In this struggle, we urge all people of good will to join and support us to get started or move forward.
I just wish Ugandan Parliamentarians could emulate those of Philippines. Disabled in Uganda also need tax waivers such as Pay As You Earn tax. Cost of living for a person with disabilities has always been high and it will never go down. Governments should scrap or reduce some taxes on persons with disabilities. This would help to maintain their purchasing power, control their disability related challenges and thus wont be left out by the MDGs in their entirety.
